v3.2.0 (Latest Stable)

CURRENT STABLE
  • AppData State Protection: An AppData cleanup can no longer destroy durable application state. ProtectionPolicy now denies OneDrive sync databases, Office and Outlook credentials, Windows Credential Manager vaults, recent-file and jump-list data, SSH and GnuPG key material, and the NTUSER/UsrClass registry hives. The protection is enforced per directory, not just per file — RootLeftoverPurgeService deletes recursively through a single Directory.Delete call, which never consulted the per-file guard, so a protected subtree could previously be removed as collateral. Purge now walks for a protected descendant first, bounds the scan at 5,000 directories, skips reparse points so it cannot be walked outside AppData, and fails closed.
  • Read-Only AppData Footprint Report: New appdata-report CLI command and in-app modal that measure what is actually occupying AppData, largest-first. There is no --clean, no --yes, and no delete code path in either surface — it reports and nothing else. On this machine it reported 32.6 GB across 123 folders.
  • Orphaned Microsoft Store App Detection: StoreAppOrphanResolver identifies AppData directories whose owning MSIX package is no longer installed, matching on the package family name parsed from binary AppModel repository evidence rather than on directory-name heuristics. Validated against 104 Packages folders: 96 matched, 7 non-package directories skipped, 1 candidate correctly rejected — zero false positives and zero genuine orphans. On a machine with removed Store apps it surfaces the reclaimable leftovers; on a clean one it correctly reports nothing.
  • Repair Cancellation Fix: SystemRepairService launched sfc.exe /scannow before checking the cancellation token, so a caller that had already cancelled still started a system repair. The guard now runs before the process is started.
  • Three Defects Found By Measuring, Not Reviewing: The denylist was matched case-sensitively, so a differently-cased path failed open; trailing-separator markers protected the parent but not the marked directory itself; and the legacy AppData junctions caused the tree to be re-walked, inflating the report. The footprint total read 63.1 GB before correction against 31.53 GB after, and 59.5 GB against 32.6 GB once junction re-walking was removed.
  • Footprint Share Bar Rendering Fix: The share bar rendered empty three separate times. A circular ActualWidth binding resolved to a GridLength/double mismatch, and a ColumnDefinition that is not in the visual tree silently ignores its width. Replaced with Converters/ShareWidthConverter.cs, a converter that returns a concrete double.
  • Release Pipeline Corrected: dotnet format had been run against WinTempCleaner.csproj instead of deltempo.sln. The root project excludes Core, Tests, Cli, and Services, so a per-project format check is silently weaker — and seven files shipped with a trailing-newline failure that CI caught and the local gate could not.
  • Documentation Cannot Drift Anymore: The advertised test count is now verified by reflection against the suite itself (PublishedTestCount_MatchesTheRealSuiteSize), so a stale badge fails the build instead of misleading readers. The count moved 909 → 1134 across all nine READMEs, SECURITY.md, the public site, and the AI-facing metadata.
  • Verified Quality: 1275 automated tests passing. TreatWarningsAsErrors is enforced repo-wide; the only non-fatal diagnostic is xUnit1051 (a cancellation-responsiveness preference, deliberately demoted and documented in Deltempo.Tests.csproj).

v3.1.0

PREVIOUS
  • Title-Bar Navigation Overhaul: The eight tool tabs are now a segmented island with four clearly separated tool families (Clean, Optimize, Repair, Danger). Group dividers are visible (NavDividerBrush replaces a hairline that was ~6% lighter than the island surface, so the boundaries were effectively invisible), the inter-group lane tightened from 8px to 6px, and the active pill keeps a constant border thickness so switching tabs no longer resizes the pill and jitters the row.
  • Navigation Padding Bug Fix: Labelled tabs rendered with zero horizontal padding. A local binding returning UnsetValue resolves to the property default rather than falling through to the style, so HeaderToolButton's Padding="12,4" was silently overridden. WidthToCompactThicknessConverter now takes an explicit labelled + compact spec and returns a concrete Thickness in both regimes. Measured on the corrected build: the active pill grew from 75px to 88px.
  • Responsive Chrome Yield: Below 1440px the version and MIT badges collapse, and below 1500px the brand tagline does too, so the navigation yields space in the right order — decorative chrome first, labels last.
  • Cleaner Workspace Density Pass: Scope rows are tighter (32px glyph orbs, reduced padding and gaps), category and safety badges dropped their outlines so the scope name leads the hierarchy, the hero gained a zone rule replacing roughly 585px of dead space, the drive/RAM telemetry buttons share one padding rhythm, and the selection strip's informational chip no longer reads as a second active filter.
  • Path Canonicalizer Hardening: PathSecurity.NormalizeCanonicalPath is now idempotent across adversarial inputs. Volume-less device prefixes (\\?\Volume{...}, \\?\windows\...) no longer resolve relative to the current directory; forward-slash device paths emitted by Path.GetFullPath fold to the same canonical form; rooted drive-less inputs re-resolve against the current drive; trailing separators never trim below the drive root; and Win32 dot/space-stripped segments that would resurrect .. are rejected outright.
  • Canonicalizer Fuzz Proof: New deterministic seeded fuzz suite (PathSecurityFuzzTests.cs, 100k cases in CI plus a 1M-case FuzzDeep campaign for local runs) asserting five invariants per payload: never throws, no surviving traversal segment, idempotent re-canonicalization, never null, blank input stays blank.
  • Release Pipeline Repaired: The release workflow ran dotnet test, which cannot drive xunit.v3 on the .NET 10 SDK — every tagged release failed at the test step while CI stayed green, because CI already invoked the test executable directly. Both workflows now use the same build-then-invoke sequence.
  • Installer Trust Anchor: Removed the published checksums.sha256 fallback, which had not been regenerated since 2026-09-30 and therefore could only ever produce a digest mismatch and abort. The release manifest is now the single trust anchor, and the one-line installer fails closed when it cannot be read.
  • Documentation Corrected to Match Reality: The update path does not currently enforce Ed25519 signatures — ManifestSignatureVerifier implements ECDSA P-256, its embedded public key is still a placeholder, and neither it nor Authenticode verification is wired into the live update path. These are now documented as known gaps in THREAT_MODEL.md rather than listed as mitigations, alongside the fact that update staging is not ACL-hardened.
  • Packaging: MSIX packaging and winget manifests added for Deltempo, with ARM64 builds shipping alongside x64 so Windows-on-Arm runs natively instead of emulating.
  • Verified Quality: 909 automated tests passing with zero compiler warnings under TreatWarningsAsErrors, including documentation-consistency guards that fail the build if anyone reintroduces the broken test command or lets the advertised test count drift.

v3.0.0

PREVIOUS
  • Force Delete & Stubborn Purge Engine: Permanently removes locked, read-only, hidden, system-attributed, and permission-denied files and folders. Bypasses file locks, strips attributes, takes ownership, resets ACLs, terminates locking applications, and falls back to Windows Session Manager MoveFileEx reboot scheduling when a handle cannot be released (ForceDeleteEngine).
  • Interactive Purge Workbench: New modal reachable from the header toolbar. Pick files and folders with native dialogs, review a staged list showing each target's stubbornness, lock owners, and safety tier, then dry-run or execute. Target profiling runs off the UI thread so large selections never freeze the window.
  • Two-Tier Deletion Authorization Gate: Tier A (AbsoluteBlock) permanently shields drive roots, the Windows directory, System32, WinSxS, boot files, registry hives, Program Files, and ProgramData. Tier B (OverrideRequired) demands explicit consent for installed applications and personal data.
  • BREAKING CLI CHANGE — --force-override: Policy-protected (Tier B) targets now require the new --force-override flag. --yes alone no longer authorizes them: protected targets are shielded, the command exits non-zero, and it explains how to proceed. Update any scripts that previously relied on --yes to remove application directories.
  • Safety Gate Hardening: Fixed a bypass where the Program Files, Program Files (x86), and Program Data roots escaped validation and were reported as safe to delete. Critical Windows directories are now anchored to the real Windows root instead of substring-matched, so a user folder that happens to be named windows\system32 is no longer permanently undeletable.
  • CLI Argument Parsing Fix: Option values are no longer collected as deletion targets — --retry 5 previously resolved the bare 5 against the working directory and staged it for removal.
  • Resilient Recursive Deletion: Directory traversal now ignores inaccessible entries so one locked or ACL-denied subfolder no longer aborts deletion of its healthy siblings. Junction and symlink targets have their attributes stripped before unlinking.
  • Destructive-Failure Diagnostics: Best-effort operations that are deliberately ignored now record evidence in the rolling local log (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Deltempo\deltempo.log) instead of failing silently, so a purge that quietly skipped an item can be diagnosed. Still local-file only, preserving the zero-telemetry promise.
  • Verified Quality: 692 automated tests passing with zero compiler warnings under TreatWarningsAsErrors, including dedicated regression coverage for the safety gate, dry-run accounting, and shielded-path immutability.

v2.0.0

PREVIOUS
  • Cyber Mint & Electric Teal Branding: Full palette transition across app and website, refreshed high-resolution icon suite, and a 1280×640 social preview banner.

  • Volume Shadow Copy & Restore Point Manager: Enumerate native VSS snapshots, create instant system checkpoints, and safely prune obsolete restore points by age threshold (VssService).
  • Task Scheduler & Explorer Context Menu: Automated recurring background cleanups via native Windows Task Scheduler and 1-click folder cleaning directly from the Windows File Explorer context menu (ScheduledTaskService, ShellContextMenuService).
  • Low Disk Shield & Tray Guardian: Proactive background tray telemetry alerts when free disk space falls below configurable safety thresholds (LowDiskShieldService).
  • Root Leftover Uninstaller Architecture: Integrated USN Change Journal scanning (UsnJournalScanner) and native Win32 directory walker (NativeFileScanner) alongside multi-drive root target detection (MultiDriveDetector) for sub-second residual leftover discovery.
  • Optional System Restore Points: Pre-uninstall restore point creation is an optional toggle (SystemRestorePointService), disabled by default to conserve disk and prevent unexpected system freezes. Supported via GUI checkbox and --restore-point CLI flag.
  • Quarantine Vault Backup: Automatic pre-purge compression and backup of program residual files into a recoverable ZIP archive in LocalAppData with 1-click restore (QuarantineManager).
  • Multilingual RTL Architecture (partial): Language selector for English, Arabic, Spanish, French, and German. Arabic activates true Right-to-Left (RTL) window flow while keeping metrics, paths, and counters in protected Left-to-Right layout. Localization currently covers the main Cleaner workspace; the modal dialogs and remaining workspaces are still English-only.
  • Pro Eye-Comfort Themes: Re-engineered light theme (Porcelain Slate) and dark theme (Obsidian Titanium) with calibrated contrast, zero glare, and WCAG AAA compliance.
  • 5-Way Competitive Matrix: Comprehensive technical comparison against CCleaner, BleachBit, Bulk Crap Uninstaller, and Windows Storage Sense.

  • High-Visibility Expandable App Intelligence: Clear high-contrast description lines in the Apps tab with an interactive click-to-expand briefing card detailing application purpose, removal safety verdicts, install paths (with Explorer shortcut), and uninstall commands.
  • Startup Manager Intelligence & Impact Analysis: Comprehensive offline catalog and AI integration explicitly answering "Will anything go wrong if I disable this?", with clear safety badges (Safe to Disable, Caution / Sync, Essential / Keep) and consequence briefings.
  • Chris Titus WinUtil (CTT) Direct Integration: Embedded 1-click launcher that opens the official Chris Titus Tech Windows Utility in a new elevated PowerShell window from the Deltempo system tools workspace, exactly as WinUtil's own documentation instructs. WinUtil is a third-party utility by Chris Titus - it is not part of Deltempo, is not MIT licensed, is never redistributed, pinned or verified by Deltempo, and is not covered by Deltempo's safety audit or release-signature verification. Because the script is fetched and executed in one step, whatever christitus.com/win serves runs with administrator rights. Users who prefer to inspect it first can open that URL in a browser instead. See THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.
  • Process Manager Native Icon Extraction: Dynamic high-DPI Windows application icon extraction from running processes for instant visual identification.

v1.6.5

PREVIOUS

  • HTTP Client Refresh: Forced periodic DNS/socket recycling in the online intelligence client to avoid stale-connection failures during long sessions.
  • CLI Usability & Safety: Added path validation for user-supplied scan targets, made process-kill resolution dynamic, and added an --exclude-system scope for large-file scans.
  • Tray Robustness: Wrapped all tray async menu handlers in exception guards so a single tray-action failure no longer crashes the process.
  • UI/UX Polish: Added empty-state guidance, inline scan-error cards with retry, keyboard shortcut badges, settings search/reset, skeleton loading states, and a log notification indicator.
  • Repository Hygiene: Removed duplicate site assets, legacy launcher scripts, local AI workspace artifacts, and stale root-level published binaries.

v1.5.1

STABLE
  • Repository Debloat & Hygiene: Shrunk Git repository database by ~98.5% (from 237 MB down to 3.52 MB), purging historical binary snapshots while preserving all commit integrity.

v1.5.0 (Stable)

STABLE
  • Modular Architecture Refactor: Split the two largest source files into 13 focused modules — the WPF window core (618 lines + 8 domain partials: Settings, Cleaning, Ui, Updates, Memory, SystemManagers, LargeFiles, SystemRepair) and the CLI dispatcher (276 lines + 4 command partials: Cleaning, Performance, Storage, System) — with zero behavioral change.
  • Opt-In CLI Shell Integration: The CLI no longer silently mutates PATH, registry, or PowerShell profiles. New commands: deltempo register, deltempo register --status, and full cleanup via deltempo unregister.
  • Privacy Default Change: Online AI file analysis is now disabled by default. When enabled, cloud providers receive an anonymized metadata summary only — never file contents.
  • Hardened Quality Gates: CI now enforces a 65% line-coverage threshold, a zero-warning policy (TreatWarningsAsErrors), and runs CodeQL security analysis on every push and pull request.
  • Reproducible Benchmark Harness: New scripts/benchmark.ps1 measures parallel deletion throughput on a synthetic sandbox (measured 3,385 files/s) with correctness-only assertions so runs never flake.

v1.4.0 (Stable)

STABLE
  • AI File Safety Intelligence Engine: Integrated multi-provider LLM intelligence supporting both local models (Ollama, LM Studio) and cloud inference providers (OpenRouter, Groq, DeepSeek, OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Perplexity) to assess files in real time.
  • Deep File Forensics Analysis: Advanced file inspection computing Shannon entropy, validating binary magic header signatures, parsing PE headers, detecting suspicious Win32 API imports, extracting suspicious string artifacts, and verifying digital signatures.
  • Large File Hunter Interactive AI Inspection: Added rich AI inspection cards featuring safety verdicts (SAFE TO CLEAN, REVIEW CAREFULLY, PROTECTED), 0–100 confidence scores, origin explanations, deletion impact breakdowns, and actionable safety recommendations.
  • Headless CLI Inspection Commands: Introduced deltempo large inspect <path> for instant terminal forensics and deltempo large clean --safe-only for automated safe large file cleanup.
  • SEO & Sitemap Enhancements: Optimized documentation crawlability with automated sitemap indexing and GitHub Pages configuration.

v1.3.9

MILESTONE
  • Scanning & Cleaning Discrepancy Resolved: Added designated cache and temporary location classification in FileSafetyEngine so all eligible scratch and cache files (e.g. .bin, .dat, .cache, .json, .etl, and GUID folders) are planned and cleaned properly instead of being over-filtered as Unknown.
  • Multi-Root Directory Containment: Upgraded root containment checks in CleanupExecutor and CleanerService to support multi-directory categories (Developer caches, Desktop App caches) without path escape false positives.
  • High-Speed Parallel Deletion: Upgraded the cleanup execution engine with bounded multi-threading (up to 16 threads) for significantly faster file cleanup; see the scripts/benchmark.ps1 harness (measured 3,385 files/s on the synthetic sandbox) for reproducible numbers.
  • Removed Blocking DISM Wait: Removed the 3-minute blocking DISM component servicing call from standard cache cleanup, eliminating application freezes.
  • Non-Blocking UI Progress: Throttled UI dispatch loops so background cleaner threads never stall waiting for WPF UI renders.

v1.3.8

MILESTONE
  • Reliable In-Place Auto-Updater: Completely eliminated the issue where downloading an update closed the app without replacing the binary. Updaters now run from an isolated helper outside of the target binary path, preventing self-process executable locking.
  • Atomic Rename-First File Replacement: Implemented safe NT filesystem rename-first swap (Deltempo.exe → Deltempo.exe.old) before staging the new binary, completely bypassing Windows access-denied sharing violations.
  • UAC Elevation & Manifest Compatibility: Fixed process spawning using UseShellExecute = true to seamlessly handle requireAdministrator manifests without throwing Error 740.
  • Single-Instance Safety: Guaranteed that background updater processes are never prematurely terminated by single-instance ghost process cleansers.

v1.3.7

MILESTONE
  • CLI Terminal Prompt Redraw Fix: Resolved overlapping console cursor when executing commands. Added native Win32 input signaling (ReleaseConsoleAndSignalPrompt) and synchronous profile function routing so subsequent commands always render cleanly on a fresh new prompt line.
  • Enhanced Dual CLI Discovery: Automatically locates and binds deltempo_cli.exe in development and published distributions, eliminating GUI process detach artifacts in terminal sessions.
  • Full Test Suite Verification: 311 automated unit and integration tests passing with 100% pass rate.

v1.3.6

MILESTONE
  • In-Place Update State Machine Fix: Resolved Invalid state transition: Discovered -> Discovered exception when triggering updates from the desktop UI. Added idempotent self-transition support to TransactionJournal and NextState.
  • Update Transaction Hardening: Ensured initial discovery state persists cleanly via journal.Save() without throwing during download initiation.
  • Full Test Suite Verification: 311 unit and integration tests passing with 100% pass rate.

v1.3.5

MILESTONE
  • Categorized Preferences & Settings Hub: Redesigned settings modal with modern segmented navigation tabs (Updates, General, Memory, Storage & Safe) and customizable free disk alert thresholds (5–50 GB).
